 Description of RTD activities
Oikon is major provider of EIA (more than 70 - mostly for large infrastructures), environmental audit and monitoring services in Croatia, both in terrestrial and marine environment.
Several recently implemented projects - Environment protection plan for Zagreb county, Coastal profile and ICZM program for Zadar’s county, as well as SEA of Mariculture development plans in Zadar’s county - clearly demonstrate OIKON’s capacity in Environmental master planning.
Oikon has been a single provider or partner of several pivotal projects for nature protection and environmental sector in Croatia, such as recently completed Map of biotopes in Croatia, financed by Croatian MoEPP.
Besides MoEPP, OIKON has worked as a major partner also for other ministries and public sector. Namely, through production of first national CORINE 1 level land cover layer, Oikon has been part of the team that developed 1st National Water Management Strategy (in compliance with EU water frame directive), which should be implemented by Croatian Waters (a national body that is responsible for water resources in Croatia). For Ministry of the Sea, Transport, Tourism and Development, Oikon has provided analytical support in implementation of the Law on mountainous areas in Croatia, and is currently important partner in the development of the 25 Sustainable Development Programmes for Croatian islands/island groups.

 Experiences in international Programmes
Oikon has substantial experience in working for leading multi- and bilateral development agencies, the most notable examples being: GEF/EBRD KEC project (Protection of carst ecosystems), where Oikon acts as member of international team, with a specific duty and responsibly to provide a backbone task, namely establishment of the entire project IT/GIS component; preparation of the GEF/UNDP “COAST project” (Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in the Dalmatian Coast through Greening Coastal Development); technical assistance for IBRD financed transboundary project Integrated ecosystem management of the Neretva and Trebišnjica river basin: Rapid economic assessment of the competing users of water resources in the Neretva and Trebišnjica river basin (NTRB), as well as, two major LIFE projects: CORINE land cover database for Croatia and building-up of the National ecological network as a part of the Pan-european ecological network & Natura 2000 network, where Oikon is MoEPP partner in implementation.
Finally, Oikon has worked at projects aimed at building capacities of Croatian environmental sector, a prime example being, Oikon’s current assistance to recently founded Croatian Environmental Agency through its involvement in establishment of Croatian Environmental Information System.
