Description of RTD activities Institute of Lowland Forestry Novi Sad (ILFE) (former Poplar Research Institute ) was established in 1958. The Institute employs 18 researchers of which 7 are PhD (forestry, agriculture, mechanical and chemical processing of wood), 8 MSc (forestry, agriculture) and 3 BSc (junior researchers in forestry and biology). The research in the Institute is dealing with both biological, ecological and environmental characteristics and growth improvement lowland woody species (poplar, willow, black locust, Pedunculate oak, narrow-leaved ash and wild cherry). The research is carried out through several scientific disciplines, as follows: Genetics with plant breeding, physiology, mechanical and chemical processing of wood and biomass, phytoremediation, nursery production, soil science, silviculture, protection against pest and diseases, herbology, agroforestry, forest inventory and GIS.
